Sunshine Dining at Contini George Street

Last week there were a few days when if you closed your eyes and looked up to the sky you could have been in Amalfi. Blue skies

Ciao tutti,

Last week there were a few days when if you closed your eyes and looked up to the sky you could have been in Amalfi. Blue skies, beautiful warm sunshine and a slight East Coast breeze does wonderful things to your soul.

Amalfi is one of my favourite cities in Italy. The Duomo where relics of St Andrew are stored may just sway my Italian Scots routes. Relaxing in the sunshine is wonderful, especially if you can indulge in some Italian cooking, made with the best Italian ingredients topped up with produce from our Kitchen Garden. Not to mention that 103 George Street is modelled on a Florentine palazzo, what’s not to love.
But this year Edinburgh and all you beautiful people have stolen my heart yet again.Stop making me cry! If you all keep saying such heartfelt things I just can’t help it.The whole team, despite having struggled with uncertainty throughout lockdown, and adjusted to the new way of working, so love looking after you all.Thank you for sharing your great energy and enthusiasm with us, it’s contagious.

Last week we had so many more visitors from down south and up north. London, Newcastle, Brighton, Orkney, Aberdeen not to mention Peebles and Hawick to keep us in good balance.

Edinburgh, as our capital city, has been shining. This Saturday was by far the busiest we’ve seen the streets for months. However we’ve definitely noticed a shift in the general public’s awareness of social distancing.Guests dining with us are still very mindful but we felt more like the Covid police on the street than restaurant hosts seating guests on the terrace. Where does the responsibility lie with enforcing good behaviour around this virus?

Moving from our stylish visors back to masks has been a tough one.You will no longer see our smiles so we’re going to have to smile even more with our eyes.Of course I understand the reasoning.Being in the kitchen will always be a tough shift with a face mask but moving at the pace we are in and out of the restaurant with a face covering does make it hard for the front of house team, if the sun is shining. The hardest part is not being able to share our smiles. I know it’s also hard for you to hear us sometimes muffling under the fabric.Whatever it takes to keep as all confident that dining out is a good choice, rest assured, we’ll continue to do so.
