Edinburgh Gin Team Visit

Gin.

What is that? Some sort of magic spell? A secret potion?

Gin is a spirit which derives its predominant flavor from juniper berries. It was developed on the basis of the older jenever, and became popular in Great Britain (particularly in London). Ginis one of the broadest categories of spirits, represented by products of various origins, styles,and flavor profiles that all revolve around juniper as a common ingredient.The Scottish Cafe & Restaurant team had a chance to have a closer look to a place where allof these secret potions are made. It is perfectly hidden right in the vibrant heart of our city –Edinburgh Gin Distillery.

We were welcomed by Tony, who told us the story of this magical drink and forms of it right from where it started in early 17th century.All the ups and downs, all the weirdest recipes and bizarre using purposes.
Our tour around thedistillery had its own magic as well. Two stills were introduced to us by head distiller David: Floraand Caledonia – these are the names of the elegantly shaped cauldrons, in other words – stills. Thetaste of variety of gins and gin liqueurs made here was introduced by Sarah. And the last part ofthe tour was presented by Fraser. At this point we had to show our own creativity by makingcocktails in the Heads & Tales bar using Edinburgh gin. All of them were tried and judged both on taste and presentation and we even won a prize! 😉
